Exotic Pet Medicine and Surgery

Dr. Marko is experienced in providing specialized care and treatment for exotic companion animals, including rabbits, ferrets, gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, reptiles and amphibians, chinchillas, hedgehogs and chickens.

Overview

He understands their unique health needs and can provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical services, as well as counseling on nutrition, behavior, and general care. Dr. Marko recommends all exotic pets have an annual examination, to ensure that medical problems are discovered early and treated for before the long term health of your pet has been compromised.

Annual exams also provide an opportunity to discuss new strategies in nutrition, environment, and medicine for your pet. Examinations for illness or injured exotic pets requires prompt attention: Due to their high metabolic rate and low stamina, most exotic pets can develop serious consequences in a short time (minutes to hours).

Do not hesitate to call Dr. Marko to have your pet examined under these circumstances. Dr. Marko is a member of the AEMV (Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians), the American Ferret Association, the Association of Reptiles and Amphibian Veterinarians, authors a column on veterinary care for the House Rabbit Connections newsletter and is the primary veterinarian for the exotic animals and the "big cats" at the Wildlife Sanctuary, located within the Children's Museum in West Hartford.
